DAEDALUS'S MISSION

MISSION: Design, build, and launch experimental rockets that turn student engineering into real aerospace capability.

DAEDALUS is the University of Minho’s experimental rocketry division. Our work focuses on advancing propulsion, avionics, structures, recovery, and project management, while also preparing students for the challenges of the aerospace industry.

Beyond technology, our mission is to inspire, collaborate and represent the University of Minho on an international stage, showing that passion and teamwork can take us further than we ever imagined.

DEPARTMENTS

Structures and Aerodynamic

Responsible for designing the rocket's body and ensuring its structural integrity. They model, manufacture, and test both the internal and external components of the fuselage, while also studying aerodynamics to optimize stability and performance.
This department integrates all subsystems into a safe and reliable structure.

Propulsion

Develops the systems that power the rocket. Their work focuses on designing and testing engines, researching propellants, and selecting materials that withstand extreme heat and pressure.
This department embodies innovation and precision, as it is responsible for creating the force that drives the rocket skyward.

Control & Avionics

The heart of the rocket's intelligence. This team develops the electrical systems, sensors, and on-board computers that monitor, control, and communicate during flight.
Their mission is to design robust hardware and software capable of operating under the demanding conditions of a rocket launch.

Recovery System

Designs and develops the systems that allow the rocket to return safely after launch. From parachute mechanisms to deployment systems, their work is critical to protect the rocket and collect data for future missions.
This department combines knowledge of materials, electronics, and programming to ensure reliable recovery operations.

Project and Logistics Management

Ensures the smooth coordination of all activities within the DAEDALUS. From planning timelines to managing resources, it guarantees that every stage of the project is carried out efficiently, safely, and without waste. The team is also responsible for risk management, documentation, and logistics, making sure the entire division operates as one.
